Somnium is a nocturnal dreamscape of overdriven swirling guitars juxtaposed with soft, sweet and sometimes smokey deep vocals. With a penchant for catchy hooks and melodies, Four Day Beard delivers these unlikely elements in a collection of surprisingly accessible tunes.
“Somnium represents a new chapter for us in many ways. While it isn’t a complete departure from our last album, the sound has definitely evolved, covering new sonic territory. Our new lineup is solid and we’ve settled in nicely as a three piece.” – Joe Schwab
I grew up on ’90’s indie rock … like Dinosaur Jr, Pavement and Yo La Tengo… I felt like I was transported back to my teenage years… these songs are very accessible, catchy, well written and well produced. – Divide & Conquer
“Chasing Birds”, the first single from the album, is a brooding requiem of connection, love and mortality, while “Living in a daydream” is a psychedelic ode to the magic of music and songwriting. “Calm Black Water” is a rumination of unrelenting wakefulness which features haunting violins and beautiful backing vocals by renowned singer and songwriter, Jolie Holland.*

Press & Reviews
“I’m really fond of this unconventional style of progression. When replaying the song over, it doesn’t feel like listening to the same story again. It’s often a wholly new experience as you pick up on new details within the soundscape.” – The Bops Collective
“Chasing Birds draws you in with a soaring guitar line tempered by deep beats. The vibrating guitars create the broody soundscape of the single as they swirl around your head. There is a floating pace to the melody that has you drifting in a twilight-filled space. The guitar riffs that cut through the nocturnal soundscape are a pleasure to listen to as they both send you flying while pulling you further into the undergrowth. There is an interesting movement to the melody that washes over you as you are floating to the vocals.” – The Other Side Reviews
“I grew up on ’90’s indie rock … like Dinosaur Jr, Pavement and Yo La Tengo… Suffice it to say although we are far in the future now in 2020 I felt like I was transported back to my teenage years…these songs are very accessible, catchy, well written and well produced.” – Divide & Conquer
“…Unusual instrumentation, forlorn lyrics, and striking but unobtrusive melodies are immediately attractive—which is sort of amazing for a band clearly operating well outside the mainstream.” and “Very interesting sounds indeed.” – The New Time’s SLO
“Feels like I Might Disintegrate, revolves around warm organ, percussion, guitar and bass. It’s another exceptional song all around. Take a dash of Sparklehorse and The Flaming Lips and you might get an idea of what this song sounds like. ” – Matt Jensen / Divide and Conquer Music
“Sounds like Beck… like something off Odelay,” and “I fucking love that about it” – Is This Thing On? Independent Music Podcast

History
Joe Schwab started recording and producing music as Four Day Beard in 2011. Four Day Beard began as an outlet for thoughts and feelings during a particularly difficult time of isolation, alienation and maybe a bit of culture shock after relocating from Southern California to a small rural town in the Southern Midwest.
Upon returning to California’s central coast, Four Day Beard has continued to record and perform with a current lineup that includes Joe Schwab (vocals/guitar), Robert Lindsey (Gratitude) on bass and Jake Duarte (The Small Kicks / Mother F Bomb / Division 13) on drums.
